Paul Clipson offers metaphysical and lyrical journeys, in which space, light, color, shadow, time interweave in multiple and unexpected forms. His films are immersive experiences and “visual exploration[s]of the moment”. Intuition, improvisation, juxtaposition, collage, overexposure, saturation and stream of consciousnessare key constituents of his methodology. Clipson uses these elements as a path to revelation and to uncover subconscious preoccupations. He is known for his close collaborations with sound artists and musicians, such as Liz Harris (Grouper), Sarah Davachi, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Joshua Churchill, or Gregg Kowalsky, whose ways of experimenting with sounds and improvising have significantly inspired his work. Paul Clipson died unexpectedly on 3 February 2018. Four of his films are featured in this program.
